"School"
What does this mean to you? For millions of kids it is back to school time. This means it is time for Mom and Dad to get to Walmart and face the crowds to buy all those essential learning tools and then go hit the mall to buy the latest must have shoes so your kids can go back to school. Mom and Dad can hardly wait to get their break so their kids can get an "education." kids dread sitting all day in a stuffy classroom "learning". What a nice day, why can't they just play? They love to see friends, they HAVE to be socialized. School prepares them for the "real world". What is the real world? I was happy to get out of school so I could finally live! Wouldn't living in the real world prepare a child for the real world? Wouldn't going out and seeing and talking to people of all ages instead of only your peer group help you become socialized? Wouldn't it be nice if children where allowed to live and learn as God intended, by living life, instead of being caged up in a room all day. What if children could be children. What if play never had to stop so "learning" could take place. What would happen if a child decided what interests him instead of someone telling him he was supposed to learn about space because he was in 5th grade or he had to learn to read now because he was in 1st grade. Would children really learn if left to there on devices? Why is it okay for a toddler to learn by experiance and play but once a child turns 5 he need help to learn? He has already taught himself thousands of ordinary things just by living and hopefully a little encouragement from a caring parent. So happy back to school time to all of you who have children educated outside the home. I will not fight the crowds, or buy the shoes, I don't envy the time you have away from your children. I will live life, and embrace every moment, and cherish every smile. I'll hug my child and play and sit up late, and we will learn. We will learn about frogs as we see them hop by, and about counting money as we buy candy at the store. We will learn about nature as we walk through the woods and about reading as we settle in for a bedtime story. I will teach my kids its okay to ask questions any time, and that its okay to love God. And if you want to paint your flower with polka dots when everyone else sees its red, thats okay too, because conforming is overrated and its okay to live life without being taught how!
